Description:

This silk regimental flag is embroidered the coat of arms of the United States.  Below the coat of arms is a ribbon bearing the regimental designation.  It reads “126TH 32ND MICH INFANTRY”.  There is a faded diagonal band from the upper hoist end to the bottom edge.  In the center of the faded band is an outline of the French Croix de Guerre, a military honor that was given to the regiment.  The medal blocked the light in that area of the flag when it was displayed in the cases in the Capitol.  A gold-colored fringe is attached to the top, bottom, and fly edge of the flag.  The hoist end was fashioned into a sleeve for attachment to the staff.

The staff, which measures 88.5” by 1.25” is topped by a spade shaped finial.  A rounded cap is attached to the bottom of the staff.  Nine metal bands are attached to the staff and read in order “Presented to 32ND. MICH. INFTY. By Kalamazoo Council No. 1616 Knights of Columbus 1917” “32nd Michigan Infantry Spanish American War 1898” “32nd Michigan Infantry Copper Strike Calumet, Mich. 1913” “32nd Michigan Infantry Mexican Border 1916-1917” “MEUSE-ARGONNE OFFENSIVE, FRANCE 8-11 November 1918” “MEUSE-ARGONNE OFFENSIVE, FRANCE 30 September-20 October 1918” “OISE-AINSE OFFENSIVE, FRANCE 28 August, 20 September 1918” “AISNE-MARNE OFFENSIVE, FRANCE 30 July-6 August 1918” “HAUTE-ALSACE SECTOR, FRANCE 18 May-July 1918”.

The flag has a 132” blue and white twisted cord with two blue and white silk tassels measuring 2” in diameter.  There is also a white silk streamer with battle honors which read “HAUTE-ALSCASE SECTOR, ALSACE, FRANCE MAY 18-JULY 21, 1918” “AISNE-MARNE OFFENSIVE, FRANCE JULY 30-AUG. 6, 1918” “OISE-AISNE OFFENSIVE, FRANCE AUG. 28-SEPT. 2, 1918” “MEUSE-ARGONNE OFFENSIVE, FRANCE SEPT. 30-OCT. 20, 1918” “MEUSE-ARGONNE OFFENSIVE, FRANCE NOV. 8-NOV. 11, 1918”.  All the honors are listed in two rows with the name and location in a larger font above and the date in a smaller font below.  Additionally, the French Croix de Guerre, a military honor awarded to the regiment is attached to the flag.  This is a cross-shaped metal on a red and blue striped ribbon.
