SC-178-90: Silk regimental. Dimensions: 54.5” x 65.5” Fringe

Description:

This silk regimental flag is embroidered the coat of arms of the United States.  There are some faded diagonal bands from the upper hoist end from where the flag was exposed to the light as it was displayed in cases in the Capitol.  A gold-colored fringe is attached to the top, bottom, and fly edge of the flag.  The hoist end was fashioned into a sleeve for attachment to the staff.

The staff, which measure 88.5” by 1.25”, is topped by a spade shaped finial.  A rounded cap is attached to the bottom of the staff.  Metal bands along the staff list the regiment’s battle honors.  The .75” bands are attached to the staff over leather.  In order from the top, they read “MUESE-ARGONNE OFFENSIVE, FRANCE Nov. 8 to Nov. 11, 1918” “MEUSE-ARGONNE OFFENSIVE, FRANCE Sept. 30 to Oct. 20, 1918” “OISE-AISNE OFFENSIVE, FRANCE Aug. 28 to Sept 2, 1918” “AISNE-MARNE OFFENSIVE FRANCE July 30 to Aug 6, 1918” “HAUTE-ALSACE SECTOR FRANCE May 18 to July 21, 1918.”

The flag has a 109” blue and white twisted cord with two blue and white tassels measuring 1.5” in diameter.  There is also a white silk streamer with battle honors which read “HAUTE-ALSCASE SECTOR, ALSACE, FRANCE MAY 18-JULY 21, 1918” “AISNE-MARNE OFFENSIVE, FRANCE JULY 30-AUG. 6, 1918” “OISE-AISNE OFFENSIVE, FRANCE AUG. 28-SEPT. 2, 1918” “MEUSE-ARGONNE OFFENSIVE, FRANCE SEPT. 30-OCT. 20, 1918” “MEUSE-ARGONNE OFFENSIVE, FRANCE NOV. 8-NOV. 11, 1918”.  All the honors are listed in two rows with the name and location in a larger font above and the date in a smaller font below.  Additionally, the French Croix de Guerre, a military honor awarded to the regiment is attached to the flag.  This is a cross-shaped metal on a red ribbon.

SC-190-90: Silk national Dimensions: 54.75” x 74” Fringe

Description:

This 48-star silk national flag has embroidered stars arranged in six rows of eight.  A gold-colored fringe is attached to the top, bottom, and fly edge.  The hoist end was fashioned into a sleeve for attachment to the staff.

The staff, which measures 89” by 1.25”, is topped by a spade-shaped finial.  A rounded cap is attached to the bottom of the staff.

The flag has a 112” red, white, and blue twisted cord with two red, white, and blue tassels measuring 1.5” in diameter.
