SC-143-90: Silk national Dimensions: 50” x 61.5” Fringe

Description:

This 45-star silk national flag was made by Henderson Ames Co.  The stars are embroidered in an 8-7-8-7-8-7 pattern.  The regimental designation is embroidered on the fifth red stripe and reads “32ND MICH. VOL. INFANTRY”.  There is some damage to the white stripes.  A gold-colored fringe is attached to the top, bottom, and fly edge of the flag.  The hoist end was fashioned into a sleeve for attachment to the staff.

The staff, which measures 97” by 1.25” is missing a finial.  The staff is made of two pieces with a collar to attach them together.  A plaque on the staff has a maker’s mark.  In the center is a shield with “REGALIA, PARAPHERNALIA, UNIFORMS” in the center.  Above the shield is the company name “The HENDERSON AMES CO”.  To the left of the shield reads “FLAGS” and to the right “BANNERS”.  Below the shield reads “MILITARY AND BAND GOODS KALAMAZOO, MICH.”

The flag has a 132” blue and white twisted cord and two blue and white tassels.  Half of the cord has started to unravel.

SC-152-90: Silk regimental Dimensions: 54” x ?” Fringe

Description:

This silk regimental flag features the coat of arms of the state of Michigan painted in the center of a blue field.  The coat of arms is outlined with painted gold scrollwork.  Below the coat of arms is a regimental designation painted on a red arc outlined in gold scrollwork.  It reads “32ND MICH. VOL. INFTY.”.  The fly edge is very tattered.  A gold-colored fringe is attached to the top, bottom and fly edge, but the fringe on the fly edge is mostly detached.  The hoist edge was fashioned into a sleeve for attachment to the staff.

The staff, which measures 89.5” by 1.25”, is topped by a spade-shaped finial.  The staff is made of two pieces with a collar to attach them together.

The flag has a 120” blue and white twisted cord and two blue and white tassels measuring 1.5” in diameter.  Half of the cord has started to unravel.
