East Jordan, MI Middle/High School, & The Michigan Army National Guard

Save the Flags had the opportunity of accompanying a MIARNG mission to East Jordan, Michigan on October 29, 2014. The Michigan Army National Guard traveled to the Middle/High School to honor an incredible teacher, his students, local veterans, and the East Jordan community for their work in several important projects.  These projects included the Solar Spark project-- raising $70,000 to fund a solar array for the school, the Seed to Salad Project which raised $75,000 to construct a hoop house and gardens at the elementary school and the Service and Honor Project which raised $160,000. All these projects were a part of the Shoe Club at East Jordan founded by inspired teacher Matt Hamilton with the support of the staff, Principal Matt Hudson, and the greater East Jordan community. The Service and Honor Project raised the funds, along with the help of local veterans and service groups, grants, and local corporate donations, to restore a veteran’s park in East Jordan whose history dates to the Civil War. It was truly inspiring to see such dedication in honoring our veterans and serving our Michigan communities.

Thank you to East Jordan, MI Middle/High School, and The Michigan Army National Guard.
