Description:
This silk regimental flag is made of a red piece of silk embroidered the coat of arms of the United States. Below the coat of arms is a ribbon bearing the regimental designation. It reads “FORTIETH U.S. FIELD ARTILLERY”. There are faded diagonal bands from the upper hoist end to the bottom corner of the fly edge where the flag was exposed to the light as it was displayed in cases in the Capitol. A gold-colored fringe is attached to the top, bottom, and fly edge of the flag. The hoist end was fashioned into a sleeve for attachment to the staff.
The staff, which measures 88.5” by 1.25” is topped by a spade-shaped finial. A rounded cap is attached to the bottom of the staff.
The flag has a 100” red, white, and blue twisted cord with two red, white, and blue tassels measuring 2” in diameter.

Description:
This 48-star silk national flag has embroidered stars arranged in six rows of eight. There are faded diagonal bands in the canton from the upper hoist end where the flag was exposed to the light as it was displayed in cases in the Capitol. A gold-colored fringe is attached to the top, bottom, and fly edge. The hoist end was fashioned into a sleeve for attachment to the staff.
The staff, which measures 88.5” by 1.25”, is topped by a spade-shaped finial. A rounded cap is attached to the bottom of the staff.
The flag has a 106” red, white, and blue twisted cord with two red, white, and blue tassels measuring 1.5” in diameter.
