SC-146-90: Silk national Dimensions: 54” x 65.5” Fringe

Description:

This 45-star silk national flag has embroidered stars arranged in an 8-7-8-7-8-7 pattern.  The regimental designation is embroidered on the fifth red stripe and reads “35TH MICH. VOL. INFANTRY”.  A gold-colored fringe is attached to the top, bottom, and fly edge of the flag.  The hoist end was fashioned into a sleeve for attachment to the staff.

The staff, which measures 89.25” by 1.25”, is topped by a spade shaped finial.  The staff is made of two pieces with a collar to attach them together.

The flag has a 123” blue and white twisted cord and two blue and white tassels measuring 2” in diameter.

SC-147-90: Linen national Dimensions: 50.75” x 68” Fringe

Description:

This 45-star linen national flag was made by Henderson Ames Co.  The stars are appliqued in an 8-7-8-7-8-7 pattern.  The regimental designation is appliqued on the fifth red stripe and reads “35TH MICH. VOL. INFANTRY”.  A gold-colored fringe is attached to the top, bottom, and fly edge of the flag.  A white linen sleeve was sewn to the hoist edge of the flag for attachment to the staff.

The staff, which measures 94” by 1.25”, is missing a finial, but has a flange where a finial would have attached.  The staff is made of two pieces with a collar to attach them together.  A plaque on the staff has a maker’s mark.  In the center is a shield with “REGALIA, PARAPHERNALIA, UNIFORMS” in the center.  Above the shield is the company name “The HENDERSON AMES CO”.  To the left of the shield reads “FLAGS” and to the right “BANNERS”.  Below the shield reads “MILITARY AND BAND GOODS KALAMAZOO, MICH.”

The flag has a 131” blue and white twisted cord and two blue and white tassels measuring 1.25” in diameter.

SC-148-90: Silk regimental Dimensions: 53” x 65” Fringe

Description:

This silk regimental flag, made by Henderson Ames Co., features the coat of arms of the state of Michigan painted in the center of a blue field.  The coat of arms is outlined with painted gold scrollwork.  Below the coat of arms is a regimental designation painted on a red arc outlined in gold scrollwork.  It reads “35TH MICH. VOL. INFTY.”.  A gold-colored fringe is attached to the top, bottom and fly edge.  The hoist edge was fashioned into a sleeve for attachment to the staff.

The staff, which measures 93.75” by 1.25”, is lacking a final, but has a flange where a finial would have attached.  The staff is made of two pieces with a collar to attach them together.  A plaque on the staff has a maker’s mark.  In the center is a shield with “REGALIA, PARAPHERNALIA, UNIFORMS” in the center.  Above the shield is the company name “The HENDERSON AMES CO”.  To the left of the shield reads “FLAGS” and to the right “BANNERS”.  Below the shield reads “MILITARY AND BAND GOODS KALAMAZOO, MICH.”

The flag has a 130” blue and white twisted cord and two blue and white tassels measuring 2” in diameter.  The tassels are formed over a wooden core.

Description:

This silk regimental flag, made by Henderson Ames Co., features the coat of arms of the state of Michigan painted in the center of a blue field.  The coat of arms is outlined with painted gold scrollwork.  Below the coat of arms is a regimental designation painted on a red arc outlined in gold scrollwork.  It reads “35TH MICH. VOL. INFTY.”.  There are some faded diagonal bands from the upper hoist end from where the flag was exposed to the light as it was displayed in cases in the Capitol.  A gold-colored fringe is attached to the top, bottom and fly edge.  The hoist edge was fashioned into a sleeve for attachment to the staff.

The staff, which measures 99.25” by 1.25”, is topped with a spade-shaped finial.  The staff is made of two pieces with a collar to attach them together.  A plaque on the staff has a maker’s mark.  In the center is a shield with “REGALIA, PARAPHERNALIA, UNIFORMS” in the center.  Above the shield is the company name “The HENDERSON AMES CO”.  To the left of the shield reads “FLAGS” and to the right “BANNERS”.  Below the shield reads “MILITARY AND BAND GOODS KALAMAZOO, MICH.”

The flag has a 118” blue and white twisted cord and a blue and white tassel measuring 1.5” in diameter.
