On July 2, 1991 Twenty-two Civil War reenactment groups joined Governor John Engler to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the July 4, 1866 ceremony where Michigan’s Civil War soldiers returned their beloved battle flags to the care of the state. This 1991 event was the official kick-off of the Save the Flags project and the attached news piece was produced by TV 10 Action News of Lansing.
