Michigan at Gettysburg - Dedication of Michigan Monuments (1889)

In continuing his long-standing support of Save The Flags, Mr. Bruce Miller recently donated an original 1889 edition of the book, Michigan at Gettysburg. The almost 200-page volume was published under the direction of the Gettysburg Battlefield Commission of Michigan which was created by an 1887 act of the Michigan State legislature (No. 215). The Commission was charged with the responsibility of marking, by the placement of monuments at the battlefield of Gettysburg, the locations where the 13 Michigan units/regiments fought July 1-3, 1863. After the June 12, 1889, monument dedication ceremonies, the Commission published this book documenting their work, the attendees, the dedication speeches and incidental events surrounding the occasion. The book will serve as a wonderful primary source regarding the vital role Michigan played at the battle of Gettysburg. Our sincere thanks to Mr. Miller for his kindness and generosity.
